• Information boxes report various events in the program. |
• | Caution boxes contain warnings of conditions that might cause errors or generate misleading output. |
• | Stop boxes report errors. You may, for example, have requested information that Vensim could not provide, or simply typed an incorrect name. |
No matter what the level of message box, you respond by clicking OK (even if conditions are not OK).
Fatal and Program Errors
Fatal and Program errors appear as stop message boxes labeled with Fatal Error for Vensim, or Vensim Program Error.
If a Fatal Error occurs, Vensim shuts down (normally cleanly), which allows you to save any work in process. Acknowledge the error and save what you can. Insufficient memory can cause a Fatal Error.
Program Errors result when Vensim's internal consistency checking detects a problem. This is either a situation that is not expected and will not be handled properly, or a memory corruption of some sort. The error message you will see is an internal check location and is intended to help us analyze the source of the problem.
If a PROGRAM ERROR occurs, acknowledge the error and save as much of your work as possible using the Save command from the Sketch tool, Text Edit tool and Workbench. Vensim will not shut down, but may not behave properly. After a Program Error you may be able continue, or the system may crash completely.
NOTE if you are getting program errors and saving models in binary format the Model>Reform/Clean command may fix the problem.
Please let us know about Program Errors. We will attempt to determine the source of the problem and provide you with an update or work-around to guard against future problems.
