The Dataset Analysis tools help you analyze variables, data, and simulations, in a variety of ways. All of the Dataset Analysis tools operate on subscripted variables. If the Workbench variable, as it is displayed in the Workbench, contains Subscript Ranges, then the appropriate Subscript Control tabs will be referenced by Vensim and one or more elements of the subscripted variable will be displayed.
If you trace causes on a subscripted variable the causes of the subscript instance or instances you have selected will be shown. Because there can be multiple equations for a variable the causes shown may include different variables depending on which instances of a variable are having their causes traced. Uses, on the other hand, work the same way as for the structural Analysis tools. Each variable that uses any instance of the Workbench variable is displayed.
