5.10b Changes

Resizing of the equation editor has been changed to resize both the initial and active portions of the equation and also allows resizing of the comment field. There is a resizing bar that crosses the dialog with the window is enlarged. This can be dragged up to increase the size of the comment or down to increase the size of the equation. Both the comment and the equation have a minimum size so the adjustment is limited.

The RANDOM... functions have been changed to issue an error messages when they fail to find the desired draw. Normally this occurs when the minimum and maximum values specified in the range are outside the area of the probability density function. Vensim attempts to draw from the underlying distribution and truncate it to the values specified by the min and max. However, after 2000 attempts the process stops and NA is returned. Now, in addition, an error message is put out. This should speed the process of tracking done such anomalies. For all the random functions the minimum must be strictly less than the maximum and the range should constitute at least 10% of the total PDF for good results.

DSS Only: A new Venapp/DLL command SYNTHESIM>RESET has been added.

Mac Only: Selection of text in output windows and the Text Editor (Pro/DSS Only) has been changed to decrease flicker.

Bug Fixes

At some zoom levels words inside of boxes would touch or go over the edge of the box.

Out of order XY pairs in Changes files or loaded into the Lookup Editor via Import Vals could cause unexpected simulation results without issuing any messages. X vals are now sorted before use.

Using named ranges in GET XLS... that start with one or two letters followed by something other than a letter would generate spurious error messages and fail to find the correct range.

GET XLS... calls were sometimes adding in spurious cell values or failing to retrieve data when time was running down or had values beginning in beginning away from the leftmost columns.

DSS Only: Nested ZIDZ/XIDZ functions would not compute correctly in compiled simulations.

Mac Only: Some lists would sometimes scroll without stopping and the document tool would sometimes appear without a scroll bar.

Mac (PPC) Only: Some stability issues on  PowerPC based Macs have been corrected though the PowerPC Mac will remain as Beta (probably permanently given the small number of people still using these computers).

Mac Only: The Combo Boxes on the Control Panel for selecting variable type and other actions were often ignored.

During optimizations and long simulations the Work in Progress window would not always respond, even after multiple clicks on the Stop button. Such simulations/optimizations will also run faster now.

Onscreen graphs were not automatically refreshing when datasets were imported.

Mac Only: The Test button on the Custom Graph definition dialog was not working.

Mac Only: Both renaming and changing subscripts on a variable from the equation editor could cause Vensim to close unexpectedly.

Mac PLE/PLE Plus Only: The list of input variables was not being displayed in the equation dialog.

DSS/DLL Only: External windows with embedded Vensim tools could cause memory problems in SyntheSim mode.

The function GET DIRECT CONSTANTS (and GET XLS CONSTANTS on Mac or if Direct was selected as the XLS access mode) would incorrectly indicate that it could not find values.

When GET DIRECT... (or GET XLS... on Mac/with Direct option) failed to open a file an error could might follow.
