Syntax errors can be detected by looking at a single equation; these local errors are typically easy to fix. The Text Editor and Equation Editor both position you at the point where the error occurred so you can correct it.
NOTE In some cases, syntax errors are discovered after incorrectly interpreting part of an equation and the error messages Vensim displays might not indicate the true problem. If an error message doesn't make sense, look at the point in the equation where the error was detected and try to determine the cause. The most common errors are extraneous punctuation or misplaced parentheses () or brackets [ ].
Incomplete equations are normally the result of making changes to the expected inputs in the Sketch Editor. When you perform a model check, Vensim will bring up the Equation Editor positioned at the incomplete equation. The equation might not have any errors, but it might not have the same inputs as marked on the sketch. Clicking on the "Check Syntax" button in the Equation Editor will tell you what the problem is, and then you can correct it.
